Interviews

Two of my interviews were published today.  (I was the one being interviewed rather than the interviewer for these particular articles.)  One can be found at the wonderful Creative Construction blog, and the other at the Northwest Herald newspaper.

Flight Review: Project Pilot

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly an airplane?  Project Pilot, a program founded by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), now makes flight lessons easily accessible for anyone who has ever toyed with the idea of soaring through the sky.  The ProjectPilot.org website features a database of over 3,500 U.S. flight schools, along [...]

Playing Doctor

A few days ago, my four-year-old carefully laid out every item of her doctor’s kit on the table.  Among other tools, there was a stethescope, a clipboard, and a plastic syringe.  (She once told me that she wanted to be a doctor someday, so that she “could give people shots without having to say sorry.”)
She asked me [...]

Greetings from Saugatuck, MI

I’m covering the 10th Annual Waterfront Film Festival this weekend.  Essentially, I’m spending the weekend watching movies and meeting directors, script writers, and actors, and then, of course, writing all about it.  The highlight of the day so far was “Dakota Skye,” a coming-of-age story about a teenage girl gifted with the super power to always see the truth behind the little [...]

Lottery by Patricia Wood Available in Paperback

Lottery by Patricia Wood was released in paperback last week.  Patricia Wood was the only American author with the distinction of making the short list of finalists for this year’s Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction.  They were kind enough to link to my review of her book as the primary review reference from the Orange Prize for Fiction website.  To read [...]

Space Shuttles and Race Cars

In follow up to my NASA Goodies post, I found out who was responsible for sending the surprise package to my four-year-old.  Our friend Craig asked his friend, Astronaut Andrew Feustal, to send her something from NASA.  Dr. Feustal was kind enough to take time out of his mission preparation to send her autographed photographs with a personalized note [...]

My Little Wanderer

As I was sitting at my computer, I noticed my four-year-old galloping by wearing her Tinkerbell backpack stuffed to overflowing.  She was “riding” her stick-horse purposefully towards the front door.  I asked her if she was going somewhere, and she cheerfully replied, “I’m heading to Frankfurt!”
And yes, she means Frankfurt, Germany…. I hope that pony can swim!
